Permission Based Email Marketing
As the name suggests, permission based email marketing is a form of internet advertising that involves the potential recipient of advertising emails agreeing to accept electronic communication via their email inbox. For purposes of this article, I will refer to the potential recipient as “the consumer”. Many marketers find it a challenge to build a list of consumers who will willingly receive their emails. Spamming is the bad practice of sending unsolicited emails and is avoided by any reputable marketer, hence the need for systems that provide an ethical solution via permission based email marketing. The consumer sometimes fills in a form or opt-in box that they have found online through a website. This provides the marketer with a name and an email address and it is understood that the consumer will willingly receive emails from this marketer. Ideally, the marketer will then send a “confirmation email” using an auto-responder requesting that the consumer click the link within, in order to confirm their willingness to receive further communication from this source. This is called “double opt-in” and is a responsible way to conduct email advertising and to avoid accusations of spamming. There are marketing websites available online who already have a list of consumers willing to receive emails. Text Ad Exchanges (TAEs) are highly effective in Permission Based email marketing solutions, and are geared to suit a marketer’s budget on any level. Following is a description of the marketing methods employed by a TAE and how every marketer, even affiliate marketers can benefit enormously from such a program. An email sent from a TAE is known as a solo ad and within this solo ad is a member’s website address or url, loaded with valuable points that are incentive for the consumer to click through, and view the website, after reading the advert written in the body of the solo ad. A marketer does not need any special skills to make good use of a Text Ad Exchange. If one can write a few lines describing one’s product, it is enough. To join most Text Ad Exchanges is free. And most give their new members a free starter pack, consisting of points, one or more solo ads (each solo ad is delivered to the entire membership), and a selection of other advertising types such as banners, hotlinks and text ads. The marketer then has the option to either purchase further advertising or to earn his/her points by browsing the adverts of other members. The points earned by viewing websites can be used as currency to buy advertising from the wide choice of options available. TAEs are particularly effective because of their ability to provide the member with enough advertising options to ensure strong product reinforcement. Briefly, product reinforcement is achieved by combining one product type with 3 or more different platforms or formats. A good example would be a solo advert to all members, a graphic banner that rotates above the solo ads randomly, and a hotlink that is displayed in the various areas within the Text Ad Exchange itself. Same product, different angles of advertising = highly effective product reinforcement. Some good TAEs also have a surf exchange. Where a member can submit his website to the traffic exchange where it is viewed by other members browsing the surf exchange. Effective and ethical permission based email marketing, affordable or even free advertising, high click through rate on your website link/s and targeted traffic is what you can expect from a good Text Ad Exchange.
