Personal Compensation Claims For Sports Injuries

When playing sport you are always aware that there are risks involved but sometimes accidents happen that aren’t your fault when you are either watching or playing sport. If this is the case you may be entitled to claim compensation for any financial loss you may have suffered as a result of your injury.

You could claim compensation after injuries for the following reasons: faulty equipment – possibly in a gym, reckless behaviour from someone playing alongside you, insufficient training, negligent medical advice or poor condition of the pitch or viewing area. These are only some of the reasons you may be able to claim compensation and seeking advice from a personal injury lawyer is advisable before deciding to proceed.

Taking advice for a lawyer is particularly important in this instance because sports injury claims can sometimes be very difficult to prove and need a certain amount of evidence so that you are able to support your claim. In some instances they can be similar to a negligence claim in the fact that you need to show that it was a breach of care which ultimately caused your injury – especially if we are looking at the instances where your injury was due to the fact that the pitch or viewing area was poor. In these cases it may be necessary to provide expert witnesses who are able to support your case.

The second important point of a sports injury compensation claim is that you need to prove that it was the injury sustained that has resulted in your financial loss which sometimes can be quite a tricky obstacle to overcome – especially, for instance, if you play a large amount of contact sports. The best thing for you to do is record everything as carefully as possible and go and see a medical professional as soon as possible after the incident has occurred. With these records, it is easier to prove when and how the injury occurred. Again, an expert witness may have to be called in to verify any evidence provided by your doctor.

Compensation can be claimed for any financial loss as a result of an injury which was not your fault. This includes any lost income, money spent on treatment, travel expenses to and from medical appointments and compensation for any future financial loss which may be incurred. Compensation can also cover family and friends who have taken a financial hit because of your injury.
