Peter Orszag Becomes A Columnist

Former director of the Office of Management and Budget, Peter Orszag is about to add New York Times columnist to his list of accomplishments. Orszag will write one to two columns on a monthly basis on economic and domestic issues. However, Orszag isn’t a newcomer in the world of publishing. Orszag has written several publications to shed light on our economic system and has used his personal expertise and experience to offer several solutions on how to improve the economic quality in the United States. Orszag’s publications have included many central topics including the improvement of American retirement plans, solutions for fixing a flawed Social Security system, and his opinions on how to fix healthcare problems.

Orszag co-edited American Economic Policy in 1990’s in 2002. The publication was co-edited in James Frankel and looks at the economic policies that the United States enacted in the 1990’s. The publication includes both policy makers and academics who advise them.

Also in 2002, Orszag co-wrote a book with Ivo Daalder, Mac Destler, David Gunter, Michael O’Hanlon, Robert Litan, and James Steinberg. The book entitled, Protecting the American Homeland: A Preliminary Analysis reports on the security plan that President Bush proposed that criticizes the policies and recommends further action on behalf of the government.

In 2003, Protecting the American Homeland: One Year On, Orszag writes with the same co-authors from the previous book and takes another look at the reaction of the U.S. government to the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Saving Social Security: A Balanced Approach makes its debut in 2004 when Orszag and Peter A. Diamond publish this in order to put forth a Social Security reform.

In 2006 Orszag publishes a collection of short essays that offers Americans ideas about how they can successfully save for retirement. In Aging Gracefully: Ideas to Improve Retirement Security in America, Orszag co-authors with William G. Gale and J. Mark Iwry.

In Protecting the Homeland 2006/7, Orszag examines the state of American’s homeland security departments and offers constructive criticism in an effort to improve the security in the United States. Published in 2006, the book is co-written with Michael D’Arcy, Michael O’Hanlon, Jeremy Shapiro, and James Steinberg.

Throughout his publications Peter Orszag has tried to make the American public aware of many economic issues, as well as offering several solutions to the problems. Orszag’s articles in the New York Times are set to cover these issues as well as other broad domestic subjects.
