Petite Dollhouse Pieces: Pattern Tips

Accessorizing with Fabrics

Dollhouses contain an enormous potential for miniaturists and hobbyists alike. The shear amount of detail can be both overwhelming and exiting. One example is fabrics within a dollhouse. The bedroom is an excellent demonstration of detail and the breadth of items that you can create. Everything from curtains and pillows, to mattresses and blankets can be created and made to fit. Next is the dinning room where you can have your own napkins, dinning room table covers, seat covers, etc. From there we move to the bathroom where you can create your own shower curtains, toilet seat covers, and more. There is just an unending amount of personal style that you can put into your dollhouse.

Accessories: The Little Touches

This hobby is about the little details. These small details can be anything from small toothbrushes in the bathroom, to magazines for the bedroom bookcase. Not only will these little trinkets add a flare to your doll's house, but it will make your friend's dolls jealous. But not only will it add that creative touch, it makes it look more realistic. In reality sky is the limit in dollhouse accessories; you can even start making your own!

Dollhouse and the Appropriate Mood

Great designers know that in order to have a good layout and design you need to strive for the appropriate mood. Each room has a mood, meaning that there are some underlying purposes for which you would have that room. One example of a mood is the dining room should be a place of meeting, where people can relax and talk to one another. Another example would be a bedroom, which is more personal, intimate, and is directly affected by the personality of the resident. Those dollhouses that are awe inspiring tap into the settings and mood of each room to design it. To tap into your mood settings, think about the purpose of the room, why it is their, and what designs, colors, furniture, would better suit that mood. As you increase your miniaturist talent with your own dollhouses people will notice the particular moods, and even though they can't quite put there finger on it, they will be impressed.

Sizing to Your Advantage

When setting up your dollhouse and buying furniture you will need to remember the three sizing constraints. The first sizing element of miniatures is the scale, the second is the room dimensions, and third is sizing miniatures next to one another. Miniature scaling refers to the fact that dolls and their furniture come in different sizing patterns. Meaning that if you have a half inch dollhouse that you need to purchase half inch dollhouse furniture. Size element is the second point, and this is as simple as making sure that your furniture will actually fit in the room. The actual furniture dimensions should be located at the store or website that you bought it at, simply measure and compare. Finally, relative or comparative size is the size of the furniture in relation to other pieces in the set. Smaller pieces will get less attention than other pieces, and the larger pieces should be the ones that you want everyone to look at.
