Phlebotomist Training

The term Phlebotomy is the unique process of making incisions in veins. It’s mainly a medical process used in collecting blood samples from patients. Phlebotomy training is thus the unique means of training medical students who would want to carry out the phlebotomy process.

In most cases, Phlebotomy involves certain concepts such as Venipuncture and bloodletting. Venipuncture refers to the process of collecting blood samples from veins while bloodletting is a treatment process used in reducing excess blood. In Phlebotomy training, the students are trained to collect blood samples by engaging in the Venipuncture process. This is usually the case when enough blood samples are required. In situations where small quantities of blood are required, the fingerstick process is used. In the case of babies, the heel stick process is used in collecting the blood samples. When blood is needed through the arteries, it’s usually collected through the brachial artery or the radial artery of the patient’s wrist.

Phlebotomy training just like every other medical training process can last over a period of 4 years, in some cases, whereby the students obtains a bachelor’s degree in Phlebotomy. It can as well last for 2 years whereby the student obtains an associate degree in Phlebotomy. There’s also the opportunity to go through the training within one year. You can succeed in that by joining medical vocational programs that offer medical training in hospitals and other medical institutions.
