Once you go out and shop for this piece of furniture, you're going to find that there is a huge variety. If you live in a home with more traditional looks and traditional furniture than I think having an oak type of stand is good. This will have the look of wood and it will fit pretty good into a room that is more traditional and old fashion. If you live in a more modern looking home, with modern furniture than I suggest you get black. It's one of those things that always seems to fit with modern looking things. It doesn't stick out and tends to blend in with this type of environment.
Lastly, you might want to go with white. White happens to be one of those colors that matches everything. It's a good choice to make when you're really not sure. Since it matches, you won't have to worry about contrasting colors.
