Piper Saratoga

The main roles of the Piper Saratoga or the Piper PA -32R are usually as air taxi, freight aircraft and of course, for personal use. Its national origin is the United States, Piper Aircraft is its manufacturer, and its first flight was dated August 30, 1974. It was introduced to the public on 1975, and its production continued until 2009. To have a glimpse of its appearance, the Piper Saratoga is an all-metal fixed-wing aircraft that guarantees high quality performance with single engine and it has a seating capacity of six. Originally, it is well-known as the Piper Lance but the later models have since been called as Piper Saratoga. The difference between the former and the latter is the innovation in which a tapered wing was replaced in the Saratoga from the Lance’s original “hershey bar” wings. Saratoga’s main competitors were Beechcraft Bonanza, Cirrus SR22, Mooney Ovation, Cessna 350 and the Cessna 206 Stationair.

When the assembly line was destroyed by a flood in the year 1972, the known luxury high-performance single engine of the Piper’s was the Comanche. After which, the company started to modify and innovate their products. Piper started to develop a single engine PA -32 Cherokee Six that is considered to be heavy lifting. A retractable landing gear was added and was made known as the PA-32R. This was actually created under the Embraer from Brazil called the Embraer EMB-721 Sertanejo. Kits of such aircrafts were sent to Chincul, Argentina so that it will be completed. In the year 2008, what was commonly called as Saratoga II HP was abolished along with the other models. The turbo-charged Saratoga II TC was the only one left that still continued to be produced, though the overall production ceased on the year 2009.

For its specifications, according to the data gathered from 1972 Piper Lance Owner’s Handbook, general characteristics include space for one crew, five seats for the passengers, though some models have one additional seat that is optional. The length is 8.44 m long, wingspan is about 9.99 m, and height is 2.9 m. Maximum speed of Piper Saratoga is believed to be 190 mph, cruise speed is about 160 mph, and range is about 1000 miles.
