Piranhas Can Make Splendid Pets
Piranhas are available in quite a lot of different varieties, the most popular of which are the Pygocentrus Nattereri or the red bellied Piranha. If you happen to be contemplating keeping these fish, make sure you provide them with a minimum of a fifty gallon aquarium in which to thrive. Do not forget - they are warm water fish. You will want some kind of temperature control mechanism inside your aquarium. They require the water temperature to be between 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit. You should also think about providing them with a biowheel and 1.5-2 inches of aquarium gravel. If you reside in the West, and happen to live in an area where Piranha are lawful, then you can most likely buy your food at the area pet store. Mature Piranha will eat just about anything so you can give them pieces of Chicken, Fish or Beef as their main protein. They may also be fed freeze fried veggies and fruits. You possibly can even throw in some fresh salad every now and again. Piranhas usually tend to gulp down food almost immediately after it is thrown into their aquarium and so any food left over after a few minutes is likely to be overlooked. This left over food can easily taint your tank and should therefore be removed without delay. Piranhas should ideally be fed once a day. A lot of rookies may consider attempting to feed their Piranha some Goldfish. They might even think it hilarious to see what happens. This isn't recommended. Goldfish have been out of the wild for a 1000s of years and carry diseases that aren't observed in the wild. These diseases can kill your Piranha, as a result Goldfish are positively not a very good food source. A lot of idiots have tried to fiddle and dip certain body parts into Piranha tanks. You don't have to be extremely clever to know that is not a good idea. Piranha get a nasty name for being themselves. If you get your pinky bitten off, then it is your fault and you cannot blame the fish. This is probably why they are unlawful in several areas, only to protect the local population of simpletons. One last tip: when they are younger, Piranhas are usually schooling fish. As they get older they become more introverted and love to hide. So ensure you give them plenty of hiding places as well as keep an eye on your aquarium ornaments and decorations for being Piranha safe and not have sharp edges.
