Pizza Innovations - Restaurants Serving Up The Next Generation

Pizza has been around much longer than anyone reading this article has been alive; and for much of the last 100 years or so, it has gone mostly unchanged. Restaurants began branching out into the delivery business eons ago, with an explosion of popularity in the 1980s that has not died down to this day. It remains one of the few foods you can get delivered in most cities in the country. But many restaurants have finished resting on their laurels. They are bringing innovations to the business and reminding people that they can keep up with the changing tides of taste and preference.

Online Ordering

This was a no-brainer, but it took some time to really arrive in style. With the advent of the internet, people were marveling and speculating on the future of American society. Would there come a time when we would do all of our shopping online? Save for groceries and other perishables, there are many who do just that. And when it comes to food, it was only natural that pizza restaurants would start encouraging their customers to put in their orders electronically. For customers who do not mind a little extra work, it can be a nice change. They no longer have to worry about talking to someone on the phone who only appears to be half-listening, and they have something they can point to if the restaurant screws up their order. It is also a great thing for the restaurants, who can count on their customers looking over their entire menu and quite often purchasing items they might not have otherwise.

Expanding Menus

Serving breadsticks and desserts is certainly nothing new to the pizza business, but many restaurants have begun expanding their menus in new and interesting ways. It is arguable whether or not the business fits into the "fast food" category, but it certainly shares many similarities. Italian food has never fared very well in the fast food industry. Many companies are pushing the envelope and changing that perception. Salads, pastas, calzones, and other interesting items have invigorated many a chain.

Health

Pizza has never been regarded as one of the healthiest foods you could incorporate into your diet. Acutely aware of this, many restaurants have begun thinking of ways to keep their loyal customers who have become more and more conscious of their expanding waistlines. Thin crusts, Mediterranean style toppings, salads, and other modifications to the basic formula have ensured that those who are concerned about their health can still order from their favorite establishments.
