Police Release Composite Of Arsonist Responsible For Australian Bush Fires
The fires are continuing to flare up, apparently, and the death toll is now suspected to be more than 200. The number of fires has gone down from 30 thanks to cooler weather and less wind surges, but arsonists' are continuing to strike and their contributions are still to blame for the flareups in Healesville, about 65 kilometers Northeast of Melbourne. The two men that were questioned about their involvement in the fires yesterday were released after it was determined that they were not responsible for the fires; however one man has been arrested after alleged involvement in the Churchill fires. The arson investigation has been dubbed "Operation Phoenix," with the towns ablaze having been declared crime zones. According to Reuters, this is the greatest national tragedy to hit Australia in 110 years, and encompasses a region "more than twice the size of London." So many people have been affected by these fires... 7000 people are homeless and about 1800 homes have burnt down completely throughout the 1.1 million acres of land that has been destroyed. Stores in Victoria, like Coles supermarket, as well as stores specializing in auto parts are donating their profits to funds for the victims and their families. Countries and people from all over the world have reached into their pockets to help the victims of the fires. Many towns are complete crime zones and will be uninhabitable after police and rescue workers clear the areas. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com |
