Poseurs Of Meditation

There a lot of things in this world that may be categorized by people as simple meditation. This includes thinking, daydreaming, and praying. But little did they know that these things are just poseurs of mediation. Well, they are not really the genuine thing but could be accepted as such if done under great focus and attention.

First we look at thinking. Like mediation, thinking needs focus on something, in this case, it might be studying, working, making decisions, or figuring something out. Well we can see that there is no problem in this, and that these processes are completely normal. But thinking still could not be exactly a true form of meditation. Why? Because meditation targets relaxation, while thinking more often than not tires our minds.

Daydreaming, on the other hand, is also not a real form of meditation. Although it focuses you on something that is good just like meditation, it usually revolves on fantasizing own pleasures in life. This might include a Cinderella story for your life, a perfect love story or even achievements that you extremely desire. Dreaming about your self escaping from a very difficult situation also could be a part of daydreaming. Although daydreaming sets the mind on something, it usually heightens the drama in our life. This is unlike the goal of meditation, which is to have more connection with ourselves for us to be able to accept and be more aware of our lives. Meditation also promotes understanding because it lets us think clearly and be more positive.

Speaking of being positive, some people also mistake it as meditation. Well, optimism or what is correctly referred to as repetition of affirmations in life merely revolves on saying positive things to cover up negative emotions. However, when these negative thought are deeply rooted, most of the time, affirmations on one’s self does not have any effect at all. It might help people be positive in life and focus in good things but sometimes, it just does not work, that’s why experts still do not categorize it under meditation.

Lastly, let’s look at prayer. Prayer could be done in a lot of ways. Prayer could simply be asking for something from God that could be help, provisions, and many other things. Prayer could be done meditatively but it does not qualify it right away as meditation. However, when prayer becomes contemplative or focused greatly on God, then it is actually meditation. In fact, it is a form of meditation which is known as concentrated meditation which is concentrating on one and only one thing. In the case of praying, it is concentrating and putting our focus on God alone.

Whether the aforementioned things are not really considered by experts as meditation, we could still use them in a beneficial way. Remember that meditation simply means being focused and attentive on something. So whether a thing is considered meditation or not, always remember to go for it as long as it will be of great benefit to your mind, your health and your body.
