Potty Training, A Fun Learning Activity?!

Actually, no. At least, potty training doesn't have to be a dreaded learning activity.

Our granddaughter, Grace, just turned two and potty training is on the agenda since she is going to have a brother or sister (my husband teases that there will be twins) later this year.

It’s on your agenda as well—that’s how you found this article. The first question is, "When should I start?" From personal experience, start when he or she is ready.

Our twins (one is Grace's father) were our born first. I started training them before they were ready. I was ready because I was tired of changing disposable diapers, but they weren't.

I didn't push it with our third son, born three years later. If fact, one of the ladies at the church we attended kept him one evening. When we picked him up, she told me, "Beth, I think he's ready to be trained." He was, and it didn't take very long at all.

One other observation...our twins were in disposable diapers, but our youngest son was in cloth ones (he didn't like the disposable ones). I can't prove it, but I've often wondered if that made a difference in readiness. The twins didn't seem to sense when they were wet, but our other son did.

Just recently I came across a product that tackles this activity in a positive way. Besides answering the questions of when and how, the authors even discuss problem issues you may face. You will appreciate the common-sense suggestions. Potty Training in 1 - 3 Days, by Wayne and Katherine Jensen comes in both audio and print for both the auditory and visual learner.

Now, armed with good resources, happy teaching!
