Preconception Care

Studies have proven that preconception care coupled with optimum timing of intercourse has a success rate as high as 80% in overcoming fertility issues. There has also been significant increased success rates for couples undergoing IVF combined with preconception care. Furthermore, the rate of miscarriage and neonatal deaths has proven to be lower when a preconception care plan has been undertaken.
A preconception care plan that embraces the restoration of the nutritional status of the body via a healthy diet and vitamin supplements will have a positive impact on fertility.

Steer clear of foods such as sugar, white flour based products and processed foods full of additives. Refining strips these foods of many crucial vitamins and minerals rendering them empty calories and foods full of additives make your body work hard to overcome them and will deplete your essential nutrient stores to do so.

Avoiding detrimental activities like smoking and excessive drinking can improve the reproductive system significantly as can an adequate zinc level. Changing your lifestyle habits and eating habits for the better will help balance your hormones and improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Generally it is recommended that a preconception care program should be carried out for a minimum of four months prior to trying to conceive due to ova being vulnerable to damage for approximately 100 days prior to ovulation and sperm taking approximately 116 days to fully form. There is good reason for both parents to undertake a four month preconception care plan to restore nutritional and reproductive balance.
