Prelaunch - Don't Let Them Suck You In

You need to be very wary of "prelaunch" opportunities.

One word that really gets people's juices flowing is the word "new". In network marketing, that word seems to rivet people's attention. Some people worry that they'll miss out, because what is "new" today will not be new next month. That puts the pressure on to act now, or you may well be too late to make your fortune.

In MLM, another way of saying the same thing is "prelaunch". Anybody who advertises these words with an idea that sounds at all plausible and which has some nice bells and whistles is likely to attract some good attention. Maybe YOU are interested.

But the problem is most businesses fail. Especially when you have a new business, the chance of them surviving 2 years is certainly under 20%, and maybe much lower. And in any event, new businesses have problems. You could commit 100% to a new business, but others won't. As soon as they get shipped a bottle with the label upside down, they'll figure these guys don't know what they're doing, and they'll quit.

All businesses need some time to get their system working right. Nothing goes just like you planned it. If you get in before they've got problems ironed out, your people will get discouraged, and it will be hard to keep them.

What is the solution? Wait. If it's a great opportunity when it's new, it will be an even better opportunity in 2 years, because it will have established more credibility and trust with stakeholders. Plus, the problems will have been found and fixed. So it's best to let the system get itself straight, rather than jumping on that "new" bandwagon.

Life is too short to have to work with people you do not want to work with. That's one reason people choose to build an MLM business - they want to escape from a job working with people they just don't respect or like. Unfortunately, some people get desperate when they're building their network marketing group, and they sign up anybody they possibly can.

Your best bet is to describe the people you really want at the start and stick to them. One idea that works with a prospect is to ask yourself, "Is this someone I'd want to go on a 30-day cruise with?"

Part of the value of MLM is that you get to pick the people you will work closely with. Why choose someone you just don't like? Instead, only go with people who you think would be a lot of fun to be around, who share your dreams and goals.

It's exciting to make new friends you really like and then to be able to support them in achieving their lifetime goals. It's depressing to have to talk again and again to an unmotivated person with whom you share nothing in common, and listen to them gripe about the business you love. Best practice is to set your standards firmly in your mind when you talk to people.

You can read a lot of these helpful MLM ideas in Michael Dlouhy's free ebook, "Success in 10 Steps." A lot of people absolutely love this book because it addresses the frustrations we've all had in this business.

There are times all of us have the thought, "MLM looks so easy. Why is it so tough to be successful?" And because the ebook answers this question and gives a step-by-step success plan, it's very popular with your target market. And that makes it a great tool to use as a lead generator.

In fact, though the ebook is a free download, Dlouhy sells a system for just $20 a month where you can use the book to build your own targeted lead database. You may well wind up with a system you like, too.
