Prepare Your Home
A major thing that many people do not think to do when putting their home on the real estate market is to simply clear much or all of the clutter from around your house. These are things that you see every day of your life, but to someone else it will just look like junk. You can consider packing away the things that you seldom use temporarily or until you sell your house and move to another one. Take large piece of furniture that are discordant with your decor or that are just bulky or in the way and do the same, storing them until another time. A simple and clutter free house will do wonders to make your home more attractive to prospective buyers. Of course there is also the option of totally getting rid of some items that you know you will not want in your new home, throwing a garage sale or giving them away to charity. Have either your agent or a friend or, if your budget can handle it, a professional decorator, come to your house and arrange furniture and decor so that it gives the best first impression. It seems like a fairly simple thing to do, and it is, but if you choose not to do this and your home ends up looking too shabby or awkward, you will be sorry later on. There are the things that are given, such as washing curtains and blinds, shampooing your carpet, trying to organize things in shelves, drawers and cabinets as these are places that will not be off limits to serious lookers, and fixing all those minor things that you have previously not got around to, such as a leaky faucet. When you have your home on the real estate market, you never know when someone might call and want to look at the last minute. It helps to have your house clean already in case of a scenario such as this. Dust and vacuum daily, making sure everything is tidy and in its proper place. If you have the benefit of knowing when someone is going to come ahead of time to look at your house, try baking a pie or cookies to make your home smell warm and inviting, or at the least burn some subtle smelling candles. On nice days, have windows open to let the fresh air inside. If your house is set at the right price, and you follow all of this advice, you should have no trouble finding someone to buy your home.
