Preparing For Your First Race
Here are some useful tips on preparing for your first race, whether it is a mile race, 5k, 10k, or even a half marathon. Sign up for the race you want to participate in as early as possible. Sometimes, races have a certain capacity of how many runners can participate in so, the earlier, the better your chances of being able to run in it is. Keep track of your training progress. That way, you can look back and see where you need to improve and if anything physically is bothering you that you need to address. It’s great to look back at what you’ve already done as a motivator as well. On the night before a race, make sure you eat food that you know agrees with your stomach. Save the exotic food for another day to try or eat, just in case you may react to it funny, which can impact race day. Make sure you warm up by stretching and jogging for at least 10 minutes before the race. It will help loosen you up and keep you less nervous about the race. A race shouldn’t be nerve racking, but fun and for your health! Most of all, enjoy the race! Enjoy the outdoors, the environment around you, and know you’re doing something great for yourself.
