Presidents Park In Williamsburg, Virginia

On route 199, at exit 242 off I64 is a little attraction you will miss if you blink. At a glance, if you do see it, you are likely to mistake it for one of those themed mini golf courses that are so popular all over the country. What you will see from the road are dozens of giant heads. Yes, I said giant heads.

The place is Presidents Park. It is nestled about halfway between Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. There is no way I can think of to introduce the place to someone without just coming right out and saying they have the 16 foot tall concrete heads of every president from Washington to G.W. Bush on display.

The heads are laid out on an oval circuit where guests walk by and view them. While it sounds weird at first guests to this oft overlooked attraction are always surprised to find they have had an entertaining and educational experience. To put is simply, and I can’t believe I am writing these words, President’s Park is so much more than just giant heads.

At each statue, or bust, you will find a series of signs containing information on each president. The information is color coded to allow students of history to follow a President’s family, religious, political, and military achievements. The bulleted lists make for interesting reading and teach you right away that you don’t know half of what you thought about our commanders in chief. It is strange to say so, but while staring into these gigantic, larger than life faces many people find they have made a personal connection with one or more of these men.

In addition to learning all about the specific historical importance of each President, guests can learn: Which President started life as an indentured Servant?

Which President was fined for speeding...On a Horse?

Which President worked in Government for 40 years and NEVER took a penny in pay?

Which President kept a pet alligator?

Which 7 Presidents were not natural born citizens of the United States? (Hint: One of them is not Barrack Obama.)

The park is complimented by a gazebo, picnic facilities, a cafe, museum gift store, and visitors center. There are also banquet facilities and evening entertainment available. Care to take a look at the infamous Florida voting machine from the 2000 election? They have one. There is also a 747 fuselage made up like the plane Nixon and Kennedy used as Air Force One, and a life sized replica of the Oval Office where guests can have their picture taken.

If you have a time share or resort package in Williamsburg, you have probably driven right past Presidents Park on your way to check in. The next time you visit the area, take a few minutes and visit this wonderfully odd little attraction. I cannot tell a lie. You and your family will have a blast, as well as an interesting educational experience.
