Pressure Cookers For Healthier Fast Food

Did you ever wish you could make a pot of beans fast? Or maybe even a pot roast? You can with a pressure cooker!

Pressure cookers cook your food fast because they create a seal that keeps in moisture and air. This means that you can cook at a higher temperature because the boiling point of the water inside the cooker is higher. Higher cooking temperature means quicker cooking without drying out foods such as meats. You will usually find it only takes about a third of the time to prepare most foods than it would through most other methods.

Vegetarians will be happy to know that their staples, rice and beans which normally take about 45 minutes or more to cook, can be ready to serve in about ten minutes. Softer foods, like vegetables, will often take only a minute or two.

Low carbohydrate dieters will love them because they can tenderize inexpensive cuts of meat. Did you ever think you could cook a four pound chuck roast in about thirty minutes? How about a whole chicken in about twenty minutes? Hey, who needs a crock pot, right?

These are very sturdy (and heavy) utensils because of the nature of what they do; retain high pressure inside the unit. They come in a variety of sizes, so you might even want more than one.

Maybe a small one would be desirable for rice, potatoes and other vegetables, and a larger one for poultry and large cuts of meat like roasts. A larger cooker would also be real handy for a pot of stuffed peppers or maybe some ribs. Throw the ribs in the pot for a few minutes to get them tender, and then put them on the grill for a short time smothered with your favorite barbecue sauce - all in a matter of minutes.

Speaking of a crock pot, the pressure cooker may be a better option for you if you have to run off in a hurry to work in the morning. Sometimes you may not have time to set the food up in a slow cooker before you head out the door. But, with one of these cookers you can throw the food in when you get home, and by the time you get settle in your dinner will be ready.

This makes sense to me. After all, we all want to take the pressure off occasionally, right?
