Preventing Acid Reflux - The Things That You Need To Remember

If you are one of the many people that suffer from the awful and rather painful affects of acid reflux then working out how to avoid the symptoms is incredibly useful knowledge. Preventing acid reflux need not be time consuming or difficult to understand and as long as you follow a few simple changes, your life and more specifically the symptoms of acid reflux can be dramatically improved.

First of all, eating late at night is a big negative. By eating your dinner and going to bed within a few hours you are increasing the risks of feeling the symptoms of acid reflux because there is no gravity to keep the acid down while you are in a reclining position.

By eating more than three hours before you go to bed, your digestive system has enough time to work its magic and therefore reduce the symptoms. Preventing acid reflux in this way will require you to eat earlier on, but can make the world of difference.

One of the easiest ways in which preventing acid reflux can be managed is to keep a food diary. By doing this you can work out which foods tend to trigger the symptoms of acid reflux and then avoid these to prevent the painful occurrences.

Quitting smoking if you are a smoker is one way of preventing acid reflux as this can relax the valve that keeps acid in the stomach but lets food in as well. When this is relaxed the acid finds it easier to battle out of the stomach area and therefore cause the symptoms that you associate with acid reflux.

Alcohol can cause the stomach to produce more acid and when there is more acid, it has a better chance of escaping and making it’s way up the oesophagus to cause acid reflux indications. Drinking alcohol in moderation is allowed but this should not be done before bed time.

Stress can cause more acid to be produced so when you are suffering from the indications of acid reflux, it is a good warning sign that you are too stressed. Try and avoid stressful situations such as people who tend to stress you out or television shows that annoy you. This will become much easier over time but once managed in the correct manner can reduce signals that acid reflux is becoming a problem.

Some of the most natural ways of preventing acid reflux are rather difficult to incorporate into your lifestyle and these could include things such as not exercising enough.

Exercise helps to speed up the metabolism and the digestive system so by exercising more, excess acid is reduced and the symptoms of acid reflux are reduced as well. This may be difficult if you already have a busy lifestyle but by just adding a half an hour or exercise to your day can make the world of difference as well as alleviating stress at the same time!
