Print From Your Cell Phone With Google Cloud Print
“Let’s say you need to print an important email attachment on your way to work so that it’s waiting for you when you walk in the door. With Gmail for mobile and Google Cloud Print—a service that allows printing from any app on any device, OS or browser without the need to install drivers—you can,” Google wrote in its Official Gmail Blog. Print from Your Cell phone with Google Cloud Print Google Cloud Print was officially launched in December 2010, but the new mobile phone feature is new. This service allows you to install a cloud printer without installing drivers. Apparently you need to install Google Chrome on your Windows-based PC (sorry no Mac or Linux support yet). Once you have Chrome installed you can log into Gmail through your phone’s browser, not the email program. Once there you can print emails or attachments through the drop down menu. What if you don’t have a Google Print enabled printer? For most of the printers on the market, you will have to do a work-around. It’s still a little rough around the edges, according to an article posted by Michael Muchmore, PCMagazine.com. He reports that the Google Print Page has the following message: “by connecting your printer with the Google Cloud you will be able to print to your printer from any computer or Smartphone, regardless of where you are. Just activate the Google Cloud Print connector in Google Chrome and your printer will automatically be available to you from Google Cloud Print enabled Web and mobile apps.” Sounds like magic to me. I’m sure that with the new Chrome OS systems coming out, this Google Cloud Print service will be much easier to use. And with printers now coming with ePrinting and Wi-Fi features, it looks like this may be the wave of the future. Does this technology appeal to you? Will you utilize cloud printing? I think the whole concept is amazing. I love using Google Docs, and of course have Gmail so I can pick up all my email via the cloud. I will have to see how this cloud printing thing works. I don’t have much need for it right now, but the future is always uncertain.
