Promoting Music On The Cheap

A lot of the struggling musicians out there are just itching to get their music heard on the airwaves and get their message across. Some of them want to change the world, some want to explain a phenomenon, some want to appeal to an entity, and others just want to express what they feel because they don’t feel efficient doing so when simply talking or writing. Because of these reasons, promoting music becomes a very tough road to trod on for these usually cash-strapped artists. However, thanks to the Internet and the media being more and more innovative nowadays, this promotions journey can now be availed on the cheap. Here are a few tips for a cheap run:

1. Exploit the Internet. The Internet is home to a lot of networking opportunities and if your band knows how to use it well, then you will have an easier time promoting music. It’s best if you maintain an online social networking account, have a working email and have a team that will take care of your band’s online activity. Or you can just take turns into maintaining your accounts.

2. Maximize your legwork. Remember what was said about exhausting what the internet can offer? Well you can do that (since there are a lot of people online always) but you also have to take care about your collaterals which involve face-to-face transactions. Promoting music is also a people game, and sometime you got to get out of there. Get some sponsors work for you, promote your brand as a musical icon, etc. And when you do decide to go out, maximize every trip. Who knows, you can devote the extra time in practicing, or taking care of your online scheduling…or both.

3. Develop a great brand. When you started out as a band, surely you had influences and you hand benchmarks. Aside from those, there were also other groups which you consider “competition” in the same music scene, although not necessarily of the same genre. However, what you should work on most importantly is to building a great brand, a niche that only your band can fill. Promoting music is easier and more efficient this way because having a certain logo, color or singing style that sticks to your listeners’ minds easily can help make for great recall and a wider possibility for audience share growth. With this, the most important thing that you have to invest on is only consistency.

See, there are a lot of low cost ways in promoting music. And when you’ve got a whole band on their toes about what’s going on, your tickets to success might have been booked early. What’s left for you to do as an artist, at the end of the day, is to work on your craft and keep your feet on the ground. Most of all, improve on your initiative, creativity and resourcefulness. When you’re up against big labels, good looks and famous family names, you’ve got to bank on your artistry and getting the right people on board.
