Protests In Egypt Lead To Military Being Directed In To Impose Curfew
The Military was given a curfew to enforce because of the demonstrations in Egypt CNN accounts that cities in Egypt now have a curfew to stop political unrest that is being stopped by military personnel due to requests from the authorities. A ton of demonstrations and unrest have occurred in Egypt the past few weeks which has caused a lot of problems. The 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew needs to be enforced by the army. This has taken place in Cairo, Alexandria and Suez so far. Due to stagnant economic conditions and civil liberties being lost in there, protestors have been getting in trouble with Egyptian security and police. Al Jazeera, which is the largest Middle East news network, has been shut out while the government has also taken cameras and video equipment. The Egyptian authorities have also cut all internet access, notably blocking any access to social networking sites. Hosni Mubarak to address the country The nation will be addressed by Mubarak who is the President of Egypt. He is being told to leave by several protestors, although he may just leave like the leader of Tunisia did within the shakeup. Since 1981, Mubarak has been the Egyptian leader. In 2005, he was democratically re-elected into the position. As of Friday, Jan. 28, protests and demonstrations have been declared illegal, according to the Christian Science Monitor. In September, a new presidential election is expected to take place. Many think the election will be rigged either putting in Mubarak again or his son Gamal Mubarak. Taking into custody a political competitor One of the greatest political rivals to Mubarak is Nobel Laureate Elbaradei. Elbaradei, aka Baradei, is the leader of the opposition party, and went to Cairo to take part in the protests. Elbaradei was seized by authorities and has been reportedly placed under house criminal arrest for the time being. If the individuals were to ask Elbaradei to help with a transition of government, he would do it. This is something he made clear.
