Pseudo-lan Support For Diablo 3 And Starcraft 2

Since Blizzard announced that StarCraft 2 will not support LAN play, the Blizzard community became outraged. The community felt very strongly that LAN suppot was a core part of the StarCraft and Diablo series and it allowed friend to play with each other with little to no lag or downtime. Blizzard disregarded the communities reaction until the StarCraft 2 LAN petition reached 100k signitures (as of August 25, 2009 there are 128k signatures).

Recently, lead designer of StarCraft 2, Dustin Browder has announced that StarCraft 2 will finally ship with pseudo-LAN support. Their main focus for StarCraft 2 is to keep all their players in the same pool to increase to community size, while having all Battle.net and game features working all the time. They did not want to split the community by offering to many ways to play. Their new LAN system still requires an internet connection but to a very limited degree. With this new system players can skill access their friends list, verify their game, update their achivements, etc. while players are connected directly with their peers for low ping, high bandwith gameplay.

Lead designer of Diablo 3, Jay Wilson has confirmed that a system similar to this will also be included into Diablo 3.
