Public Domain Images

Public domain images are basically photographs or anything similar that was basically released from the US copyright laws. Now, what this means is that these images are now available for anyone to use. Did you know that you can make money off of these images? Yes, you can. But before we get to that, let’s start from the basics. The information industry is one of the most lucrative businesses any one person can get into. Think about it, there would always be a need for all sorts of information and there has to be someone there to provide it. Of course, depending on how unique and great the information you provide, people would likely pay for it as well. The thing is, for anyone to be able to start any kind of information business, they would either need to create the information themselves or buy the right’s to another person’s and sell that under their name. You need not pay any kind of royalty to anyone or go through the hassle of securing the rights to the images because they are available for anybody’s use. You can re-publish or re-package them and then sell it. Think about it, if you have written a book and need images to further illustrate what you have written you would either have to pay someone to create the images for you or pay for the right’s to use someone’s photograph or artwork. But this shouldn’t be the case if you opt to go with images that were made available in the public domain. Remember, anything that was published before 1923 as well as various photographs, under certain conditions, that were published up to 1978 are considered to be in the public domain. Besides these ones, there are also new additions each and every day so the choices are endless and the opportunities just keep on coming.

What else can you do with public domain images? Well, you can publish your own photo compilation book or include some of the images to your articles to add visual appeal. You can even create postcards out of them, prints or have them placed on shirts and bags. All you need to do is to think creatively and I’m sure that great ideas would soon come. The images are just there for the taking but you would need to know where to find them. Did you know that there are people who make hundreds of dollars by re-printing various images in the public domain and selling them as posters or wall decorations? A few hundred dollars might not seem like a lot but if you’re investment is as little as $20 to get the images printed on canvas then it becomes significant.
