Pump Shoes And Its Usage

The Pump, more specifically known at the Reebok Pump (after the shoe manufacturing giant that created the famous Pump technology), became extremely popular in the early 1990s. It was the first shoe that can be inflated with a built in mecanism inside the shoe in order to serve atheletism.

The original Reebok Pump was introduced in 1989, as a basketball high-top shoe. The shoe was quite costly compared to other retail athletic shoes that were available in the market at the time. The wealthy wore them on basketball courts as a mark of status and pride.

Since the basketball shoe was such a great success, Reebok went on to design pump shoes for football, tennis, and track (trainers). Hockey skates with the built in pump was offered by another company in 1995, however it did not fare well in the athletic marketplace due to it's poor lasting power. After a long hiatus, the Pump returned to hockey as skate shoes in 2006, when Reebok used The Pump as a heel-fit mechanism that was customizable to individual athletes. This time it was accepted with much praise and adoration.

Pump technology is making a comeback. In 2006/2007, the DC Shoe Company launched a line of snowboarding boots with Pump technology. Reebok has also pounced back into the market with trainers and other such shoes which pump as the wearer walks. Reebok continues to sell athletic shoes with pump technology for cross training, basketball, football, tennis, etc. It also sells the new-and-improved pump for its top of the line hockey skate shoes to improve heel lock.

The Pump today is worn by popular sports stars and the common sport afficionado alike. Users claim that it is comfortable, absorbs impact, and provides traction and durability. With shoes like these, everybody should "Pump it up!"
