Purchasing Crackle Finish

When people cannot get their hands on new old things, they make things look old. In this case, simple steps can turn new things old. There are times when a coat of crackle paint is all you need. This is actually a common painting technique used by a lot of people.

Use crackle paint and your walls will look weathered. All you will need here are latex satin wall paint, crackle medium, paint brush for latex paint, roller and roller cover, drop cloths, and masking tape.

Let the walls dry at least overnight after you put a base coat of latex paint. If you want to select a color that will show through the crackle effect in the topcoat, use a satin finish for the base coat. You can choose to buy crackle finish in pints or gallons.

Depending on the project you are working on, you can apply the crackle finish at one time. If you are doing furniture, apply the crackle finish in sections. Use the masking tape to mask off any section that you do not want the paint to get to. Here, apply the paint with a brush or roller.

Only roll on the paint after you have been able to cut in the edges of the walls. You only need to leave the paint for an hour for it to dry. Prior to the crackle drying, prepare the top coat of paint for application. If the finish dries too much, a second application will be needed. Start painting one end of the wall with a paint brush. Remember that in order to achieve the crackled look that you want, apply the crackle and then run through it with one coat of paint.
