Quality Parameters Determining Australia Wine Quality
1. Smell and flavour: While doing the wine tasting it is important that due care shall be taken of the different types of smells like that of the cork or poor vinegar smell or a strong smell of a barnyard. These smells are the faults of the wine flavour and the wines having these usually end up as discount wines. 2. Texture and weight: There are different words which can define the texture and the weight of the wine. Regular drinkers or tasters are able to quickly differentiate between these. These could be the light or crisp, or the rough or smooth ones, or even the soft and full-bodied ones. 3. On the whole balance or harmony: Just as in case of the eatable cuisines that you make, there has to be a definite proportion of each element to give it a taste. Any single taste shall not be dominant. Some of the younger white wines might not be mature enough to have achieved this perfect harmony. The mature wines which have this harmonious blend of different ingredients do need some bottle life or shelf life before they give you the perfect taste. 4. Time period for which the taste of the wine persists: This is one the main indicators of he quality of wine. A taste that goes off the moment the wine is drunk or spitted is not a mature wine taste. The longer the taste the better is the concentration of the wine and better the quality of grapes used in the making of the same. 5. Look: Against a white background, you can tilt the wine glass away from you and check for the colour gradient. The best wines will have the bright and saturated colours. White wines with dark colour might be showing signs of incipient oxidation. 6. Swirl: If you swirl the glass of wine a bit, its aromas would be released which shall be sniffed deeply to know the quality. The vineyards do hold regular wine tasting to separate the discount wines from the premium ones. To reduce the number of variable affecting the wine tasting exercise, it is suggested that the tasting is well organized. You can keep the wines of same age from different regions for tasting. Similarly, you can also have the wines of same category and vintage to be tasted simultaneously.
