Red Wine

Red wine is one of the most popular and common type of wine that is served with different types of foods. Red wine is so called because of its color. The wine is made from grapes that are red, deep purple or even blue in color. The wine made from these colored grapes can be of different colors, all classified as red when it comes to the classification of wines. These colors may be black, dark red, light red, purple, ruby red, garnet, maroon, violet etc. The various colors of red wine can be attributed to the color of the skin of the grapes that are used for making wine. When fermentation of grapes takes place, the skin of the grapes remains in contact with the juice and so the color spreads to the skin. The color of the wine depends upon the length of time for which the skin has been in contact with the juice.

There are about 50 different types of red wines that are available. Red wine is generally served in glasses that are either oval or egg shaped at the top. The ideal serving of this wine is between 10 to 22 ounces so that the wine does not spill and can be swirled easily without spilling it.
