Reducing Income Loss Through Tax Appeals

The property taxes
in Texas are huge and it can amount to large sums. An average household has to pay $3600 as taxes. This is a hefty sum and it breaks the back of the common man. The best way to reduce these taxes is to appeal for property tax rebates. Appeals can be made with respect to this fact and there is a high probability that these appeals will be successful. Some surveys which were conducted have shown that almost seventy percent of the appeals were successful.

The homeowner usually makes a statement of account regarding the money he has to pay as taxes. He first calculates his total income, total expenditure and the worth of his property. The tax amount will amount to a hefty sum if done through the escrow account.

Another study has shown that not all homeowners appeal for tax rebates. Although the calculations have shown that about seventy percent of the appeals are successful only seven percent apply for it. Studies and research has been done with regard to this and it has led to the following conclusions.
1. The whole process looks very complicated and most people give up their idea of appealing.
2. People often do not have enough confidence and they fear that their appeal will be rejected and that they will fall into the category of the thirty percent people whose appeals are rejected.
3. Some people think that their homes have value much less than the market rate and therefore they do not bother to make an appeal.
4. People are not aware of appealing for unequal appraisal.
5. Most people do not have time to spend for these things and they are busy catering to other daily chores.

Why is it necessary to appeal?
Take for example the price of a house whose property taxes have been reduced. This reduces the estimated value of the house on the whole and therefore you are more likely to be assessed less.

There are some basic steps to be followed for appealing.

The first and foremost thing is to send a notification to the appraisal review board. The notice should reach the board before May 31st. This is due to the reasons which are specified below.

1. There is a chance that the notice regarding the assessed value may get lost thorough the postal system.

2. Appeals need not be done if the increase in value is too low.

3. Appeals should be made within one year interval of time
