Anxiety and Panic attacks can become an overwhelming influence in your life. It can keep you from having fun, getting tasks completed, or even sleeping at night. If you are looking for self help for anxiety, these simple steps may be just what you need for anxiety relief.

Exercise every day.
Exercise releases endorphins in the body. Endorphins are chemicals that soothe the brain and make you feel better. They also have a sedative effect that can relieve physical symptoms of anxiety as well. All of this without drugs.

Take time to relax.
Even just 20 minutes of relaxation each day can improve your mood and relieve stress. This can be especially helpful if you have stressful work or activities. Taking a break to relax can make you be more productive. Some ways to relax including meditation or doing a puzzle.

Combine Exercise and Meditation
Yoga and Tai Chi are excellent ways to relax and relieve anxiety because they focus the mind while exercising the body.

Distract Yourself
If you find yourself overcome with anxiety and unable to concentrate, find something else to think about. Read an engaging book, do a crossword or Sudoku puzzle, or work on a hobby. Distractions that give you a sense of accomplishment are even better since they keep your mind off of your problems and can make you feel good about things you've done.

Learn Breathing Exercises
Panic attacks can cause you to hyperventilate and make it hard to breathe and regain control. The most common way of stemming hyperventilation is to breathe into a paper bag. When you rebreathe your own air, it increases the amount of CO2 in your lungs which can reset the breathing signals in your brain. Concentrating on your breathing also helps to focus your mind. If you don't have a paper bag available, inhale for a count of 5, exhale for a count of 5 and repeat until you are calmed.

Just following this simple advice will show you there is self help for anxiety. These steps along with an anxiety relief regiment through your doctor or therapist will have you taking control of your life with confidence.
