Renovations
Plans for changes on the interior of the house have been approved, the kitchen fitter has been paid his 50% up front as per his requirements and everything is ready to fall in place. It was a little difficult planning the new kitchen for your wife, she has so many demands. The problem really is that the space was very limited and all the things she wanted in there made it difficult for the designer, but not too difficult. They actually welcomed the challenge as it can now again be used as an example for potential customers. The kitchen to date is the most expensive of the renovations. Followed closely by the bathroom. The new tiles and shower stall being the most expensive. We also want solar power installed with a large geyser, enough for both the bathrooms as well as the kitchen. The thing will sit on the roof like some space module just landed from outer space. Luckily, it is on the back of the house, but even if it had to be fitted to the front of the house, it isn’t very unsightly. The kitchen will get new floor tiles, new appliances, a cooker hood, and my wife’s most treasured feature, a walk-in pantry. I thought that it would take up a lot of floor space, but the designer cleverly put it in a convenient corner, a corner that I have to admit was very underutilized before. All the kitchen counter gadgets will fit nicely in with the kitchen cupboards and the wood finish really looks classy. I know my wife will be very happy with it. The bathrooms each will be re-tiled, floor and walls, a new bath in the one bathroom and a new shower stall in the other. We will use the same basins and toilets, because it would be a waste to replace them. I have to admit, the new tiles will look divine. The barbeque outside on the back porch is another improvement. This actually is finished already and we have used it over the weekend already. We love to use the porch when we get visitors and the weather is good. It just made sense to have a proper barbeque built into the wall, with a handy counter next to it for dishes and spices, and underneath it a space for charcoal, wood and other things to do with the barbeque. Now I have less of that clutter in my garage. Talking of the garage, I am so pleased with the new garage door with its genie garage door remotes. They work faster than the old one, I’m sure of it. And I know it is a reliable name with a good track record. I’ve put one of the genie garage door remotes onto my wife’s key ring too, and have an extra spare one in the house for in case. It is such a convenience to be able to open the garage doors with a remote, and not to have to get out of the car to do so. We should have had this done long ago.
