Replacement Forklift Parts Recommendations

Forklifts have been known to last as long as 20 or more years. As long as a forklift is serviced regularly and maintained properly, there is no reason why it should not be serviceable for that length of time. Of course, that doesn't mean that it won't need occasional replacement forklift parts. Some of these parts you will replace routinely, while others you may overlook completely until it's too late and major problems occur. What replacement forklift parts do you need to pay special attention to?

Strangely enough, many forklift owners and operators don't pay as much attention to their forks as they should. Forks look indestructible, but they are subject to abuse and wear just like any other forklifts parts. While many owners overlook them, others make it a point to inspect them regularly and replace them occasionally. They may do this just to be on the safe side or they may want a new pair of forks that are longer, wider or thicker than their original forks.

Brake inspection is something that you no doubt carry out regularly. Do you also check your axles for wear or damage? Axle parts are essential replacement forklift parts. They are not expensive and parts like axle seals, axle boots, axle clamps and axle shafts can be purchased separately or all together.

Many forklift owners get their electric motors rewound rather than replaced. If its a newer motor, this may be a good idea, but if it's an older one, you might want to consider buying a new motor. The technology has undergone improvement in recent years and you might find that you get better, longer lasting performance from a new motor.

New forklifts are often fitted with factory seats that are not as good as they could be. There are some very advanced, ergonomically designed forklift seats on the market that can make a big difference to operator safety and comfort. These replacement forklift parts come either universal or brand specific, so there is doubtless at least one that will fit your forklift.

Lights, horns and alarms do not affect your forklift's performance, but they are necessary safety replacement forklift parts. Other small and inexpensive parts include bearings and fans, to name just a couple. Each of these parts need periodic inspection and replacement. Sometimes you can get away with generic parts or even used parts, but whenever possible, buy OEM parts for the highest quality. Remember too that your steering and lift motors need occasional inspection and replacement.

In order to get the most out of your forklift and replacement forklift parts, it is best to establish a working relationship with a reputable parts dealer who has been in business for a number of years. Some websites you run across will look great, but they might be run by internet marketers and not materials handling experts. If you ever need expert help for forklift replacement parts, then you can turn to your dealer for that help, but only if he has a long history of service. A good parts dealer can be your best business friend.
