Resolving “there Was An Error…” Error Message In Ms Access

Upgradation or degradation of database between different versions of Microsoft Access is a normal practice followed by the database users. While upgradation and degradation process allow the user to mount the database in a particular version, it might also result in an error message. This error message makes the database unmountable resulting in inaccessibility of data saved in the database. To overcome these situations, you will need to restore the data from an up-to-date backup. However, in case of absence of an up-to-data backup or backup falling short to restore the desired information, you need to use advanced access repair application that can completely repair your corrupted database.

Consider a practical case, where you receive the below error message when you convert (degrade) your database from Access 2007 to 2003:

“There was an error executing the command”

You might also encounter the same error message when you convert your database from Access 2000 to 2003.

Once the above error message appears, the data stored in the database becomes inaccessible. Additionally, you encounter the same error message each time you try to mount your database.

Cause:

The above error message primarily occurs when the database gets corrupted after conversion.

Resolution:

For complete resolution of the above error message, the first and ideal solution is to use an inbuilt repair utility known as “Compact and Repair.” Below are the steps that you will need to follow to use the inbuilt utility:

1. Go to the Tools menu, select Database Utilities and then click Compact and Repair Database.
2. Locate and then click the database in the ‘Database to Compact From’ dialog box, and then click Compact.
3. Select an appropriate folder location for the new file in the ‘Compact Database Into’ dialog box, type a unique name for the file and then click on Save.

In most cases, the inbuilt repair utility repairs your corrupted database. But, if “Compact and Repair” utility is unable to resolve your issue, then you will need to use powerful Access Repair utility. These Access Database Repair tools use high end scanning mechanisms to completely scan and repair the corrupted database.
