Retailers Face Stiff Competition This Holiday Season

Retailers are facing fierce scrutiny by consumers this holiday season. With all the competition, you may be going nuts trying to find the best deals. Never fear! There’s an app for that! While doing a bit of research, I found several lists of top shopping apps for the coming season. I have listed a few of the favorites for Android smartphones, iPhones, and even some for Windows Phones.

TGI Black Friday – This free app lets you see the newspaper ads before they hit the press. It helps you sort out all the various offers and will even alert you when a new ad is available.

Google Shopper – With this free you can search by voice activation, scan a barcode, scan the cover of most books and media, find nearby offers, online prices, and detailed product information. It will even give you directions to the local stores that carry your item.

SlickDeals – Live updates and deal alerts.
ShopSavvy – Use ShopSavvy to scan the barcode or type in the product name, and it’ll give you a list of prices at local stores and online retailers.

Decide.com – Decide.com is kind of like ShopSavvy, but with a focus on electronics. It also tells you whether you should buy now or wait for a better deal.

SnapTell – Shopping for CDs, DVDs, or books? SnapTell will help you find all of the information about that media and will even let you know where it is the cheapest! It gives reviews so you won’t end up with a lemon.

RedLaser – This app lets you scan the bar code of any item in the store and the app will find the retailer that sells the item for the lowest price.

FastMall – When you are out shopping at your favorite mall, this app will give you walking directions to find your favorite stores in your local mall. And if you shake the phone, the app will find the nearest restrooms.

Giftmeister – Having trouble deciding what to give to a person on your list. This app helps by having you answer a simple questionnaire about the person you are buying a gift for (age, gender, interests) and your price range and the app will find various gift suggestions.

Buzzillions Review – This free app delivers 17 million customer product reviews to your Android or iPhone.

Christmas List – Gives you a way to organize all those gifts, and even lets you create groups, set budgets and mark your progress

Ready to hit the mall? Or are you going to be an online shopper? With the plethora of shopping apps out there, those retailers are going to be scrambling to make the sale. After all, if you can easily look it up on your Smartphone and get it somewhere else cheaper, they will either have to price match or lose the sale. It used to be “buyer beware,” but now the catch phrase is “retailer beware!”
