No matter what our position in life, most homeowners select window treatments for the same general reasons. When we look for window dressing or for adding coverings for privacy, we often only consider the colors of the products available to us. For the window treatments on the market, there are a great many innovative control systems, however. Our window coverings look better and last longer because of these developments. Going back to before the turn of the century, roller shades are a traditional product in window coverings. Pull shades have finally met their match in the chain, or clutch, drawn roller shades with internal springs to help retract them.
Either by the pulling down of the roller shade or a tassel attached to the bottom of the shade fabric to lower them, roller shades made with springs would be lowered manually. One would tug at the bottom of the shade, or if there is a tassel, tug the tassel to raise spring roller shades. However, it is easy to see that manually controlled roller shades can often develop problems.
To fix this problem, innovative control systems for roller shades have been developed. Clutches, or chain-driven, is what these systems are called. By the pulling on the front or back of a chain hanging from the top of the roller shade, shades would be manipulated by these new controls. Plastic or metal - this chain can be made from either since both products are strong. Plastic chains will last longer and are stronger than their metal counterparts. There are those who prefer the metal chains to control their roller shades. Roller shade manufacturers usually only choose based on price in making quality roller shades; they mostly consider quality or performance secondary.
There are many benefits of chain roller shades. More accurate shade positioning is the first such benefit to be had. Adjusting a spring roller shade to an exact height would be considerably difficult. You always would have to accept the spring's "suggestion" on where to leave it when positioning spring shades. When you have chain roller shades you can set them as high or as low as you want.
Another benefit of roller chain shades is that they can stay looking as good as new. Physically touching the fabric on the shade to raise or lower it will no longer be necessary. It is possible to increase the life and beauty of the roller shades by providing touch to the fabric. You won't have to worry about dirty finger prints on your roller shades when you have a control chain instead.
Roller shade chain systems can lift heavier shades and last longer than the old spring systems. This is because roller shades have different types of springs. The purpose of the springs is to resist the shade from sliding, and the new styles of springs are built into a sealed case. The spring roller shades are not reliant on the same weak springs as in older spring shades, and that is about the only difference from what you had in a spring roller shade. Larger shades, often as big as 8 feet wide and 10 feet tall, can take advantage of the special designs of the new shade systems. With spring roller shades, these larger roller shades would never have been possible.
In a single roller shade, you should consider chain controlled roller shades if you want roller shades to last longer, stay cleaner, or be large enough to cover your large windows. They will make your window treatments last longer. In medicine, imagine that innovations also work for longer life and beauty.
