Romantic Love-1

It makes me alive. I feel new and feel like living till eternity with my loved partner. Our love is everlasting and we cannot stay without each other. Our love gives us great energy and arouses hidden passions I had never known to exist. Oh, what more can I say about romantic love? It is heavenly. These words or similar are spoken in the beginning phase of romantic love. But as time passes the love may or may not sustain. What is romantic love? Why can it not sustain? How to prolong it? These are some questions that we will try to address in this series.

From where does the desire to love originate? Is it sexual, or spiritual or both? According to Indian thoughts romantic love is what takes us ultimately to God. We are incomplete without meeting our God and romantic love is the fist step we take in that direction. Have you felt the feelings of loneliness when you do not have a partner you love? And the feeling of joy and contentment when you are with your partner? We are searching for someone to love and get loved in return. We are searching for appreciation and compassion. We are searching for getting pampered and peace. We hope to get all this in our romantic relationship. This search is the beginning of romantic love.

There is lot of sexual element involved in romantic love. It is difficult to think of romantic love without attraction. Latest scientific findings suggest that attraction is very much dependent upon eye contact and smells. I feel that in the very beginning of love, it is strong sexual attraction along with feelings of romance. The saying of love at first sight is very much true and many couples fall in love at the first sight. Is that not surprising that couples should fall in love at the same time?
