One of the favorite city destinations in Western Europe noted for its romantic appeal is Paris; it is also one of the best European city destinations. Unfortunately a Paris short stay can only ever be considered a taster; with a great deal to see and do that to really a week is needed. Visitors flock to see its many wonderful buildings; plus sights like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and many other places that are havens for tourists, both home grown and international. Traveling through the city of Paris can be very enjoyable; the Metro underground system is easy to understand, efficient and reaches everywhere even the most enthusiastic tourist would want to visit. You can't miss the Eiffel Tower, mainly because it's over three hundred meters high; it can be seen from any point within the city and the superb views just can't be matched by those looking at it from the ground. Illuminated in the evening, it is one of the most beautiful sights in the entire city; guided tours are available where the patriotic tour guides give you an in depth history and an insight to what it is to be French. If you plan on spending some of your traveler's checks in Paris, then a trip down the Champs Elysees is an essential part of a trip; you can see beautiful shops, sit and drink coffee from the many cafes or have a meal in a first class restaurant. This is an 'up-market' area that attracts thousands of tourists each day; it is also where most of the five star hotels are situated but thankfully hotels tend to be cheaper once you move away from the city center. The world famous Louvre museum is in this city; it houses over three hundred thousand exhibits but not all of them are ever on display at the same time. A short stay in Paris only ever allows a small appreciation of what is on offer; unfortunately it has so many visitors each year that some people are unable to see their favorite works. Many well known artists spent years of their lives in Paris; many of whom left large collections of their paintings here like Monet and Picasso. The Arc de Triomphe another famous landmark was built by Napoleon in 1806; it provides visitors with a wonderful photo experience because it contains the names of every one of his generals. It also features an observatory to take in surrounding views; including all the avenues of which it is a focal point. Certainly it is not fair to believe that these are the only places in the city worth visiting; although no trip would be complete without seeing these, they are probably best viewed as part of a guided tour, some of which are actually free. On your short say in Paris you will only see a small sample of what is available for a visitor; this article has not even discussed the topic of medieval castles and Gothic churches which the city has in abundance.
