It's true you've purchased fitness equipment before. The all-in-one home gym is in multiple pieces in the garage, because you can't get the spare part to fix it. You promised your spouse you were going to use that mountain bike, but that's gathering dust in the garage too. And jogging just makes your knees hurt. Despite earlier bad fitness equipment purchases, you still want some fitness training. I know it may sound like a waste of good money after previous bad purchases, but have you considered investing in a rowing machine? Not like the one you purchased from a mail-order catalog, a pneumatic piston contraption that felt nothing like real rowing. The one that broke within a week, just like the home gym sitting in your garage. I mean high quality equipment. It's like your mountain bike, but you can use it for just a few minutes while watching TV, instead of getting sunburned outside. A good rowing machine really does feel like you're pulling oars through the water. And is quiet enough to watch TV while rowing (you'll still need to turn the volume up a little, they're not entirely silent), or while your spouse reads in the next room. And they're no impact so they're easy on your joints. The nice thing about a rowing machine is that it gives almost all the muscle sets a workout. If you include some push ups, then you are completely done. If you use this routine, you will regularly work out all of the major muscle groups in your chest, arms, legs and back. Not only is rowing a full body workout, but a rower can be used to train a variety of energy systems. Need to improve your pure strength? Crank the resistance up to the max and do short sprints. Want more endurance? Turn down the resistance and shoot for time or distance. Feeling competitive? There are rowing machine competitions, which will give you a goal to shoot for while training and help keep you motivated. If you are in the market for a rowing machine don't discount the possibility of a gently used rowing machine. While you can pay a lot of money for a new rowing machine you may be able to pick up a used one that is just as good. If you must purchase new, consider buying from a company that has a strong track record in providing rowing machines. Newer companies often don't carry the parts to fix your machine should it have a minor break down.
