Sadism, Masochism And Voyeurism Psychosexual Disorder
Sadism is a psychosexual disorder in which sexual excitement is gained by inflicting pain on the partner. The act of such individuals may include physical cruelty, such as flogging or bondage or mental cruelty as in humiliating the partner. The suffering may be inflicted on either a consenting or a non-consenting person, and may range from mild injury to raping, torturing or even killing the victim. Such person obtains full sexual gratification from the sadist practice. He may even cut a woman with a razor or prick her with a needle, experiencing an orgasm in the process. The main causes of this psychosexual disorder are - 1. The negative attitude towards sex is one of the major causes. Sadist activities may help him express his contempt and punishment of the other person for engaging in sexual relation. For such individuals, the infliction of pain is apparently a safe means of achieving sexual stimulation, strong feelings of power and superiority over his victim may for the time being shut out underlying feeling of inadequacy and anxiety. 2. It may be due to any experience in which sexual excitation and possibly orgasm have been association with the infliction of pain. 3. It may happen due to lowering of inner controls and the deviation of symbolic processes as in schizophrenia and other severe kind of psychopathology. Masochism is a psychopathological disorder in which the individual persistently derives pleasure from pain inflicted on the self instead of on other as in the cases of sadism. Such behavior usually comes about through conditioned learning, as a result of early experiences. Such individuals come to associate pain with sexual gratification. Voyeurism is a psychosexual disorder in which an individual derives sexual satisfaction from secretly observing people in the nude or in the act of putting the dress out or engaging in sexual activity. Viewing the body of an attractive woman seems to be quite stimulating for many men.
