Safari Trip To Corbett National Park

Corbett National Park is formerly known as the Hailey National Park and is the oldest national park in India. It is located right in the foothills of the Himalaya. This park was established because of the successful efforts of conservationists, especially John Corbett. He was the one responsible for the prohibition of hunting and capturing of wild animals, including tigers and from cutting timbers in the area.

Under the Terai Arc landscape Programme, the World Wildlife Fund included the tiger, the Asian elephant, and the one-horned rhinoceros among the species that need to be protected. The program aims to restore forests in Nepal and India for wildlife migration. The park, offers a wide variety of fauna species.

Both local and migratory birds are identified that includes fowls, crested serpent eagles, weaver birds, kingfishers, falcons, gulls, herons, black throated Payas, stone curlews, and parakeets.
Aside from the most celebrated tigers, other animals found in the park are a variety of cats including the jungle cat, fishing cat, and the leopard. You can also add buffalos, boars, elephants, leopards, pythons and crocodiles, Indian pangolins as well as the rhesus monkey, antelopes, sloth and 4 unique species of deer.

Planning

The best way to enjoy your safari trip to Corbett National Park is to plan ahead. Make early reservations, create an itinerary, list the best and preferred spots to visit, and of course, know the people and their culture ahead of time so you know what you should do and what you should not do.
The months of November until June are the best months to visit to better appreciate the rich flora and fauna. To get there, you can access the international airport in Delhi or the local airport in Pantnagar and from there, its only 50 kilometers away.
Another option is via rail thru Ramnagar and from there, you can avail of taxi cabs or mini buses going to Corbett. Lastly, if you feel like taking your own jeep, you can take the Delhi route and it will pass Hapur, Murababad until you reach Ramnagar.
Tourists are encouraged to be in the gate at least 30 minutes in advance so they can attend the briefing and also get the necessary permit they might need. Avoid last minute rushes.

Great Things to Do in Corbett

There are a lot of things that you can do in Corbett National Park aside from tiger and bird watching. There are some areas like Ramgarh, Kosi, Mandal, Binsar, Kothari, and Pancheshwar that allows fishing and angling. Forest officials issue permits before the activity can push through.

Ffishing rods are also available for rent. It is a great fishing site. You can take the safari right afterwards. This is the most sought after activity in the park so be sure to make reservations in advance. You will be accompanied by an experienced driver who can help you track the wild animals you came for. It can cover the whole area in less time.

Another good way to spend your time in the park is to have the elephant ride. These animals can reach places that jeeps cannot reach. You can even get closer to animals in the wilderness without scaring the animals away. You get the chance to have a closer look at the wild animals in their natural habitat. Other adventure activities which some nearby resorts offer includes trekking, river crossing, rock climbing, and bungee jumping.

Things to Bring

Now that you have the idea of what Corbett has to offer, it is always advisable to bring the following to have the greatest adventure of your life: binoculars, map, comfortable and neutral colored clothing, sunglasses, camera, insect repellent, and extra money. Also, do not use heavy perfume in this area.
