Cosplay costumes for those costume role players that are interested in Sailor Moon are some of the most interesting, and popular of all cosplay costumes. This is a blessing and a curse. Because it is so popular, it is possible to find all sorts of costumes for Sailor Moon and her co-characters. The blessing is that if you are looking for a good costume you will be able to find it. The curse comes from those people that are not well grounded in reality.

You know what we mean, the same sort of person that will wear a speedo even though they are over 100 pounds overweight at the beach will try to wear a Sailor Moon costume without the needed physical characteristics to match the character they are going to portray. Those that are not of the proper body type for these costumes are best to either pass on this sort of cosplay costuming, be ready for the ridicule of their compatriots in the cosplay society, or keep it all behind closed doors. If you want to play dress-up we say more power to you, but if you are going to be part of the Cosplay society and try and act out your favorite scenes you should be sure that you have at least a passing resemblance to the character you are try to portray

Maybe this is not a popular point of view. Political Correctness would state that we should not care about the body type of the person that thinks of himself or herself as Sailor Moon, and if it is in the privacy of their own homes that is certainly a good position to take. But to go out in public and pretend to be Sailor Moon but even with the best costume look like Sailor Moon’s older heavier aunt, then perhaps this is not the character for you to portray.

Sailor Moon is a heroine of her show and there is a lot of interest in that show as it is not only popular in Japan but in the US with the translated shows that can now be found in the US and by DVD or Video. This has created a groundswell of interest in this fine Japanese animation program. While the program is meant for children, there are teenagers and adults that have an interest in the program and therefore in cosplaying the characters from that show.

As a last note, once you have your Sailor Moon cosplay costume and accessories, and have acquired either a Sailor Moon cosplay wig or made up your hair, you need to decide if you are going to be a walking example or a performing one. If you are going to do a re-enactment, do yourself the favor of recording your performance because this will be the only way you can be sure that you really should be performing re-enactments instead of just showing off all you have put together as a Cosplay Sailor Moon performer.
