Salsa Dance: Full Of Intimate Passion
Everywhere you look, be it on television, movies or your favorite bar, the Salsa dance is exploding. Full of Latin American and Western influences, the saucy or spicy technique focused on during the dance, is where the name came from. Due to the sexy flowing movements and the passion emitted from the music, this style of dancing has become so contagious, it is exploding in every culture. Salsa music is sultry and passionate. Instruments like blaring trumpets, cowbells, and thumping on conga drums provide a beat to the music. When synchronized, the music and the dancers meld together, in to one seductive entity. This music is a four-beat pattern, which is counted one, two, three, pause, five, six, seven, pause and so on. With the partner who leads, starting on the first count by stepping with the left foot, following right then left. On the fourth count, will pause or tap the right foot. For the next three counts respectively right, left and right. Each step finishes with the transfer of all the weight. The partner, just shifting by four beats, will preform the same moves. Based on this beat pattern, various styles of the sultry dance emerged. Changing this beat slightly, to an eight beat rhythm, you change the style. This new style is known as On Clave. Son on clave is eight beats, and is either played 2-3 or 3-2 style. A flashier variety of the styles are the Los Angeles style, which started back in the later part of the 1990s and early parts of the 2000s. The most noted difference is the use of 90-degree turns. And the New York style differs in that the breaks are used for directional changes. The modern day salsa incorporates various styles ranging from grit, funk, soothing samba and gyrating statements from hip hop to reggae. Another stand apart feature of this form of dancing is the outfits associated with them. Sparkling sequins and colorful beads and rhinestones embellish these outfits. Mini dresses add a certain sexy flare. Long dresses or skirts with slits up the whole length of the leg add another layer of sensuality to the performance, but also provide a level of comfort for the dancer. The appealing slits allow the dancer the freedom required to perform the complex leg movements. Instead of the skirt or dress, the Palazzo pant with the slim fitting waist and hip, flaring towards the bottom of the pants also creates a fluid motion when the dancer is moving. Whether wearing a skirt or the pants, combining a shimmering halter top completes the sensual appearance of the dancer. The male partner usually keeps it simple, wearing perhaps a simple formal shade of black or brown, as opposed to the hot tones of reds, pinks and purples worn by the female partner. However, to spice it up a notch, shimmering materials or material with a sheen can be worn. If you are new to the just world of the Salsa dance, you probably will not go to that extreme in your choice of outfits. Skirts are good, however you may want to consider wearing shorts underneath. Especially if there is a chance your skirt will fly up. Halter and tank tops should be all right, as long as you are not going to be doing a lot of bending over. If you have long hair, it should be worn up. Scrunches and other sparkling bands are perfect for holding hair up. Ponytails should be avoided, whipping hair around when spinning and turning could cause injury to your dancing partner. Salsa dancing is one of the most romantic and sensuous dances performed today. The pulsing beat of the music, the beauty of the body movements, and the implied intimacy takes your breath away. It is said to be contagious. Watching this spicy dance leaves many people wanting to try it themselves. And more and more people are looking to learn this sultry dance. After all, we all want to experience romance and passion.
