San Diego - The Flower Mecca

For more than sixty years the growers have managed to transform the lush, rolling hills into one of the most magnificent, and somehow color coordinated, array of brilliant color and stunning beauty of the likes you've never seen before.

At the flower fields you'll find almost fifty acres of enormous Tecolote Ranunculus blooms that make their appearance here six to eight weeks every year, from the first part of March through early May. When these gorgeous flowers start to open up they bring life back to the fields that welcome them with open arms. The locals consider this early burst of life and brilliant color Mother Nature’s way of welcoming spring in Southern California.

The Flower Fields, besides being one of the most beautiful spots in the area when in bloom are also available for special events like weddings, special anniversary celebrations or corporate functions, providing not just the beautiful fields of flowers but of the breathtaking ocean beyond. They also have student programs including one about growing flowers from seed or bulb for preschool to 2nd grade. It's a hands on program with an option to take a field trip to the fields to see the Ranunculus farm in action. The field trip includes a wagon ride, music, arts and crafts and composting. The Flower Fields are a great place to take the kids and you'll find cheap hotel rooms nearby that will help you experience it on a budget.

The Flower Fields also host a series of special events and classes throughout the year for visitors of all ages including photography workshops, Bonsai shows, Strawberry Fields day with it's strawberry eating contest and creating arts and crafts, Easter Sunrise Service and even celebrate Mother's day. They also have a series of free concerts that the entire family will enjoy, playing everything from Blue Grass to Jazz. Most of these events also welcome vendors that come to sell their homemade goods and artistic creations, where you're sure to find a beautiful, one of a kind treasure.

San Diego really has it all and if you can tear yourself away from its beaches and theme parks, you'll want to put the Flower Fields on your list of things to do. Just spend a little more time here; it will be well worth it and the cheap hotels in San Diego will make an extended visit easy to afford.
