Sand Water Filter--do You Really Need One?

There are few situations here in the US where you would need a sand water filter, unless for your garden or pool, as they are very basic and produce a slow flow rate.

Sand water filters have been used for over 100 years to treat waste water. They are generally used on a larger scale to treat a water supply for a whole community, in conjunction with reverse osmosis type filtering.

They are becoming more advanced and popular in third world countries to give them an improved supply, especially if the water is from a well or a similar source like a drinking hole.

Even if you are considering one, you need to look for an additional home filtration system as well, as the sand filter will not remove the dangerous contaminants that lurk in our present day water supply.

With recent studies showing how we have thousands of toxins in our supplies ranging from herbicides and pesticides to prescription drugs, lead and chlorine, a proper filtration system is necessary, on top of a sand water filter.

Our treatment plants simply can't cope and samples of water from most states show the presence of a least one pesticide in each glass, and many of these contaminants have been proven to cause cancer. In fact one of the most dangerous toxins is chlorine, the very substance that helps to disinfect it and it is this above all we need to remove.

The U.S. Council of Environmental Quality says: "Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine."

I hope this highlights just how necessary it has become to protect your family with home filtration, and quite possibly the best health investment you will ever make.

The most effective ones to remove the chlorine lead, and synthetic drugs are carbon block filters, that use a multi-stage process, and leave in vital minerals like calcium and potassium that other systems like reverse osmosis strip out.

Some food for thought for you there and remember if you still want a sand water filter, just be sure to add on a proper system to safeguard your health now and for the future.
