Satellite Tv Embraces Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14 of every year and is certainly the most romantic day of the year, far surpassing New Year’s Day, which mostly involves drunken philosophizing, embarrassing mistimed kisses and just general awkwardness all around. Valentine’s Day, however, is a holiday all about love.

Valentine’s Day was actually named after an early Christian martyr by the name of Valentine—in fact, several Christians named Valentine. Interestingly, none of these Valentines were associated with love or romance in any respect. By the time any Saint Valentine came to be associated with romance, it was already the 14th century. Much of this association is due to bureaucrat and writer Geoffrey Chaucer during the high middle ages. It wasn’t until the 19th century that Valentine’s Day began to be associated with greeting cards, thanks to smart marketing companies. Now this holiday is a commercial institution that influences many and gives couples everywhere something to talk about.

For the month of February why not snuggle up to satellite TV and watch some of the most romantic movies ever made on premium TV or Pay-Per-View? HBO has some timeless classics to offer, including movies like Music and Lyrics, starting Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. After finding falling in love with that romantic coupling you can watch a more epic romantic tragedy in William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes. You can also watch Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey in The Wedding Planner, a movie that undeniably proves that you don’t have to be the brightest person in the world to fall in love. Another popular romantic flick to keep your eyes on is Definitely, Maybe starring Ryan Reynolds and Wedding Crasher’s Isla Fisher. Over at Starz and Encore you can enjoy other heartbreaking flicks like Dirty Dancing starring Patrick Swayze, or another Shakespeare classic Much Ado About Nothing.

There is always something to watch on satellite television. Not only are viewers treated to over 260 channels of premium digital content, but they can also enjoy some very “romantic” niceties like HD format programming (which makes picturesque scenes all the more beautiful) and on-demand movies, which start and stop whenever you say so. Satellite TV also offers a DVR player, so you can record anything on the schedule for playback. You can rewind and pause whatever you’re watching—including live TV! Best of all, you can work your DVR system from practically any location. All you have to do is log into your account and choose the program you want to record from an Internet browser. You or your significant other will never have to miss another episode of your favorite soap opera or favorite encore movie presentation. Now that’s romance!
