Save Energy And Reduce Bills In The Home With Window Film
There are many benefits to energy saving, one of the most important for many people is the financial gain, especially with the rising costs of fuels. Another great benefit is to the environment to which people are becoming more conscious. The effects of global warming are starting to become apparent and many of us are trying hard to reduce our carbon footprint. The good thing for us is that when we reduce our carbon footprint we also reduce our running costs and saving money. Many people know about the benefits of double glazed units, wall cavity & loft insulation but not many people know about how window film can be a great benefit to reduce summer air conditioning bills and winter heating bills for a relatively low initial outlay.
There are two types of film you can install to help save energy. Solar window film stops solar heat coming into the building whilst low-e (low emissivity) window film stops solar heat coming in and winter heat loss.
Solar window film helps to reduce air conditioning bills in the summer
A solar window film is deigned to stop infra-red rays, which is the part of the solar spectrum that carries the heat. Spectrally selective solar films are available in a clear untinted design, such as Coolclear which is virtually clear to the eye whilst stopping 70% of solar heat. Other tinted films such as reflective film will stop over 80% of solar heat as well as stopping dazzling glare from the sun. This will help to ease the use of air conditioning units helping to save energy and money.
A Low-E film will reduce winter heating bills and summer air conditioning bills
A low-e window film will stop solar heat coming in and winter heat loss, it is designed with a solar coating that stops over 80% of solar heat coming into the property, reducing the strain on air conditioning units. The film also has a low-e coating which stops the heat leaving the premises. Solar heat comes in on infra red rays and when it hits the floor or a piece of furniture it turns into medium wave rays. The low-e coating stops this medium wave heat from passing though, which can reduce winter heat loss by 33%. This will help to lower you winter heating bills as well as reducing your air conditioning bills in the summer.
