If you have ever experienced moving house after living for years in one place you will have probably been amazed at how make clutter you collected over the years. Few people realize just how much damage this clutter is doing. Saying goodbye to clutter can open the door to affluence in your life.
If your life is full of clutter then that clutter acts as a barrier to success. Getting rid of the physical, mental and emotional clutter from your life will bring a feeling of freshness and a clarity that will make it so much easier to succeed at anything.
Let's start by creating a definition of clutter. There are really two main types of clutter. Firstly, clutter is anything of low value that takes up space in your life. This could be physical space, mental space or emotional space. Secondly, clutter is also anything that reduces clarity.
Many people who have clutter in their life are also experts in the art of denial. They either deny that the clutter exists or they deny that the clutter is causing them problems. Some people even take pride in their cluttered existence and wear it as a badge of honor.
People will joke about their untidy desk. You can even buy little signs that say things like "a tidy desk is a sign of a sick mind" or some other humorous phrase to help you avoid solving the clutter problem.
The cold, hard truth is that research clearly shows that people with untidy desks are less effective than people with tidy desks! This is not to say that everyone with a tidy desk is more efficient that everyone with an untidy desk. What it is actually saying is that you will be more efficient in a tidy, well structured environment than you will be in an untidy, cluttered environment.
This not only applies to untidy desks it is also true for all areas of clutter in your life. If you live in clutter then you are building a wall between you and the magnificent life you could be living if you exchanged clutter for clarity.
If you are a person who attracts clutter then now is the best time to break that habit pattern. Start by restructuring your physical environment, and I don't mean moving things from one place to another. What I mean by restructuring is actually getting rid of anything that is not enhancing your life or your ability to succeed.
This can be torturous for the clutter oriented person. They want to keep everything in case they will need it one day. The truth is that your life will greatly improve if you get rid of the clutter. Throw it away, or give it away, or sell it on ebay. Do whatever you have to do in order to get rid of it, and if you don't have the courage to do it then get someone else to do it for you.
Once you've removed the physical clutter from your life it's time to start on the mental and emotional clutter. What thoughts and beliefs are failing to enhance your life? These thoughts and beliefs are just mental clutter that is making it hard for you to think and act clearly and decisively. It's time to throw them away and bring mental and emotional order into your life.
What about the people you mix with? Which of those are bringing clarity or joy into your life and which of those are bringing more emotional or mental clutter? While you're on the job of bringing order and structure into your life why not do the same for your relationships. If you have friends or acquaintances that aren't enhancing your life then that is a clear sign that it is time to move on from those relationships and on to more inspiring, rewarding relationships.
Tackling the physical clutter is the easiest place to start but removing the mental and emotional clutter is the only way to stop clutter returning.
