Indexer – The back-end application that finds and indexes pages for inclusion in a database; other names for this type of application include spider, robot, and crawler. Database – Stores the index references to web pages. Query Interface – Handle the questions submitted by users. Search engines aren’t able to find or index websites without some help, which is why people choose to register their sites. Another way for a search engine to locate a website is through a link to an actual page on the site from someone else’s site.
