Selby, A Home Theater Company, Provides Something For Nothing For Reach Foundation

During a fantastic dinner and some bubbly, Selby, a home theater retailer, contributed $2,500 at the PeSA Internet Conference Gala Dinner Auction during the month of July. Although this was an auction this bid got them "absolutely nothing" so this was a straight donation to Australia's Reach Foundation which was the beneficiary of all the auction proceeds.

The PeSA Internet Conference Gala Dinner really got some attention this year as it raised over $29,000 during the one night, all for the Reach Foundation. The Professional eCommerce & eBay Sellers Alliance (PeSA) was established in 2003. Their two day conference altered the Gold Coast Convention Center so that it became a huge information party about the internet; there were fifty six speakers and forty one sessions. This was a great opportunity for those in the industry to learn some new skills, hear the shared knowledge of the big businesses such as PayPal and eBay, discovery what's new in the industry and meet and talk to a lot of online retailers.

This annual internet conference always comes to a halt with the showy gala and the auction for charity. The footballer legend, Jim Stynes, was the speaker at this year’s party so it was a very special time. He is the co founder of the Reach Foundation, this year’s beneficiary of the gala. This foundation provides support of the young people in Australia; their many outreach programs have touched over 57,000 young Australians lives. The stories of some of these young people who have been impacted by Reach were shared during the very moving speech given by Jim Styne.

There were many auction items at this lively Gala Dinner that were for usable services for the online entrepreneurs, they included a web design and an eBay store. The end of the auction brought some very classic Aussie good humor as the auctioneer announced the last (of course it's usually the best) actually was an "auction for nothing." The auctioneer was very funny as he confirmed to the participants, "That's right; you are bidding for absolutely nothing!" The bidders were a lot like school kids on teams as they competed for this "nothing" prize. But finally the founder of Selby Acoustic, Shaun O'Brien, was the winner as he bid $2500.00.

The business that Shaun O'Brien runs, Selby, offers up a very large choice of varied home theater audio and video products like hdmi cables. Selby is one of the biggest online retailers in Australia for the video and audio equipment, and Shaun is very committed both to PeSA and the Reach Organization. Asked for a comment regarding his "nothing" bid he said, "I was beat in the bidding a couple of times before this and I wanted to make a supportive bid for the Reach Foundation. Winning the bid of the 'auction for nothing' was a really smart and enjoyable way to be part of it."
