Review of the new hit personal success DVD: Know for Yourself
After the widespread success of the movie The Secret There is a whole new genre of personal development films. Even though Know for Yourself does belong in that genre it brings self improvement resources to a new level. It is more about having personal responsibility for your results and actually really going after what you have always wanted to have.
The one issue I have continually seen with most Law of Attraction resources is they show people why, but fail to explain to people how to change their habitual thinking. People go away thinking that all they have to do is think positively and focus on what they want. The viewer feels motivated and upbeat about their lives while they watch the movie. But this feeling is often short-lived and only lasts until some situation comes up that forces the person right back to their old negative patterns of thought. These principals only work if applied consistently, if you can make a real shift in your habitual thinking.
I always felt that self improvement films would never do more than motivate and inspire, that courses and books are the more powerful self improvement resources. However Know for Yourself took a very fresh direction from anything else I've watched.
The movie blends individual success stories from individuals the world over, and a roundtable conversation amongst a group of self made millionaires. This format is very successful as viewers respond to stories, they both motivate them and help them understand the possibilities. However the motivation can die away. I feel the power of the DVD is in the mastermind group discussion. These powerful leaders and entrepreneurs set a high standard for personal responsibility and laid out what it takes to create lasting change. They laid out a path to success and discuss the changes that people need to be ready to make to reach their dreams, but they also show that to really be powerful you must to use your influence in the world for good. You have to be the one to hold yourself to a very high standard.
I didn't get the meaning of the film's title at the beginning, but by the end of the film I felt it summed it up fairly well. Know for Yourself is about getting out of the herd, making your own decisions and choosing what to believe, not just sticking to the ideas and beliefs of the masses.
The one thing I didn’t like was that the format of the roundtable discussion made some of the better points get lost in the mix. I loved the chance to eavesdrop on a millionaire mastermind, but the relaxed nature of the conversation made me forget that the points they were making were really keys to success. I only caught some of the most powerful points when I watched the film again.
I would recommend this to anyone who is actually ready to pursue their dreams. I think if you are only looking for motivation this is probably not the film for you, because it requires a much higher level of personal responsibility for your results and your way of thinking. I found this film was a fantastic resource for entrepreneurs who understand that to grow your business you have to also grow yourself alongside. If you're an aspiring entrepreneur who is struggling this film is a must. But prepare to hold yourself to a higher standard of thought and of life!
